Celiac test = positive. Now what?
So, if you read here and don't keep up with me on Facebook, I apologize. Scoot on over to FB and be my friend...I basically live there and only travel here for very infrequent brain dumps. Today is one such dump...sorry for any rambling but I'm fried.
Zachary was tested for Celiac and IBS...and luck us/him he's Celiac +. So, since he's a mere 2 1/2 years old and I'm the Mama...I get to figure out what this means for not just him, but the whole family. I do the grocery shopping, I do the cooking. It's all Mama.
Here's my delima:

That is my pantry right now. What do you see when you look at it? Up until yesterday I saw (too much) processed foods that equaled our breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
Today...I see
Gluten
Wheat
Stuff my boy can no longer eat
Stuff that causes my boy to have nasty horrible diarrhea
Tonight, after too many diaper changes, I decided to try to make something that 1.) he will attempt to eat (ha ha) and 2.) won't bother his belly as much.

A sweet potato and the last 2 regular potatoes, diced and seasoned.

And chicken.
I'll cut his up in cubes and call them "nuggets".

makes me feel like the worst mother in the world. Not every moment of every day, thankfully, but when we are out in public. Oye!
Yesterday was a MOPS play date at the mall. Besides the "normal" screaming fits he throws at the drop of a hat, he ran off and I actually LOST him for 5 minutes. The mall is HUGE and he's not. Thankfully another MOPS mama found him before I totally freaked out.
Today at the pumpkin patch, another MOPS play date, he again wanted to run off from me. This pumpkin patch is in the middle of nowhere, with vast open expanses of nothing and there was just no way at all I was going to allow him to run free. So he spent a lot of time doing this:

while I spent a lot of time pointlessly saying things like "if you don't listen, we'll leave" and "you can not run off from me again". Winner of the useless statement contest, that's me!
I know he's in pain from teething, he's almost got 3 of his canines in but still has his 2 year molars to go. I swear by the time he finally gets all his baby teeth in it will be time for the adult teeth to move down and the baby teeth to fall out. We'll NEVER make it!!!!!!!!!!!
My MOPS group "hired" a Love and Logic speaker to do a seminar...which is wonderful. I'm struggling with two things...remembering what I learned from each class and how to use it with Zachary now. I feel like he doesn't understand enough verbally to "get" what I'm saying. He probably does and has ME trained to think otherwise. I can't even wrap my mind around what I need to be doing with/to/for Haley as a mother...yikes.
Mostly though...I just want to cry. I have done this twice before and other than motherhood amnesia I can't think of one single reason why I don't remember the 2's being this hard. Oh wait...I can. Micheal was a super easy toddler/young child and Haley, while she was the poster child for TERRIBLE 2's and out of control at times, mellowed out quick. I keep blaming all the hard times on Mike and his side of the family...that's the only variable that has changed in my 20+ years of parenting.

So, last week I finally did it...I quit my job. I can't tell you how relived I finally feel, being free of all that garbage. I'd share some of the highlights (low, really) of the job, but I really need to stay in the place I've finally arrived - peace! I didn't realize just how negative I was feeling until late yesterday afternoon...I feel so much lighter and a ton happier now. It was crazy and terrible and I can't believe I worked there for so long. Ugh.
I had a job interview that I am waiting to hear back from. This is in a church so I'm really praying that I get it...I desire to work in a true Christian environment. If this job doesn't come through I have a few other things in mind. I don't need to earn a ton of money, but I do need to bring in something each month.
Mike had some GREAT news at work also last week. The nasty GM that was basically forced into hiring him on permanent (because HE can't count days on a calendar!) has been transfered to Denver! Mike was SOOOOO happy when he told me. And even better, the new GM is a sup that has known Mike from his first season at work and has always been positive and encouraging and wanted Mike hired on a lot sooner than it happened. I'm so glad that God has blessed our family with all this wonderful news on our job fronts!
Now that I'm home with Zachary full time I am trying to implement a learning time. He "might" know his ABC's, numbers, colors and shapes but he sure won't tell me! He might even know some songs or whatever from the last year (wow!) in daycare...but he sure won't tell me. So, last week I started a letter, number, shape, color and song. I can't decide if I should keep at this one more week or go ahead and start a new set this week. He seems interested, thankfully. Mostly though, he's interested in trains! LOL He has a new word: Henry, the #3 train on Thomas the Tank Engine. Now he can say Henry, James, Edward (Eh wah), Percy (Prs) and of course Bertie the Bus. I think it's pretty normal developmentally right now that he's dropping most of his ending sounds, I'm just happy that he's TRYING to say more and more words for me...when I say something he actually tries.
Funny story then I'm done. In the car last night:
Mama: Zachary can you say Henry?
Zachary: Henry!
Mama: can you say James?
Zachary: James
Mama: can you say Thomas?
Zachary (dramatic pause): uh huh!
Haley got the biggest laugh out of that! That's pretty typical for him though. Sure I can say it...but WILL I????

We took Zachary to get his hair trimmed up...to the same place that Micheal got his first haircut at 19 years before!
Zachary was NOT happy at all, even holding a train. But he sat on Daddy's lap and cried and wiggled...we got it done pretty quickly though and he looks SO cute. I took a few pictures, of course, and they are on my Flickr page. (I'm a paranoid freak about his pictures online so you have to have a Flickr account and be a "friends or family" person with me to see...sorry!)
Before:

After:

Funny moment - they had one of those outdoor cars (by Step 2? Little Tikes?) and he kept finding all kinds of big toys to put inside...the Dirt Devil vacuum, this huge T-Rex dinosaur, a HUGE firetruck...it was so weird. I don't think HE ever got inside the car...just everything else!
That's my boy...super silly. Just like his Daddy...and Mommy, but that's no secret!
